Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that she expects no help from US President Donald Trump about Rohingya refugees who are entering Bangladesh following barbaric persecution in Myanmar.

Sheikh Hasina, however, said that she spoke to the US President about Rohingya issue during her short-time meeting with Trump in New York on Monday (September 18).

The meeting was held at the headquarters of the United Nations during the UN General Assembly. Sheikh Hasina talked to media in an interview after the meeting.

Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday (September 21).

Bangladesh Prime Minister expects no help from the US President as he has made clear how he feels about the Rohingya refugees.

As Trump left an event he hosted at the United Nations on reforming the world body, Sheikh Hasina said she stopped him for a few minutes. “The US President just asked how Bangladesh is? I told him that it is doing very well, but the only problem that we have is the Rohingya refugees from Myanmar. But he didn’t make any comment on the issue.”

Sheikh Hasina said that Trump’s stance on Rohingya refugees was clear, so it was not worth asking him for help with the Rohingya refugees.

The US declared that they won’t allow any refugees. “What I can expect from them.  Although Bangladesh is not a rich country, we are feeding 16 crore people. We can feed another 700,000 people,” said Sheikh Hasina.

A senior official of the White House said that they were unaware of the exchange but said Trump was deeply interested on the Rohingya issue.

About 410,000 Rohingya refugees entered Bangladesh, escaping the ethnic cleansing conducted by Myanmar army and Buddhists in the country’s Rakhine State from August 25.

At 1000 people have been killed in the fresh operation of Mynamar army.

About a million Rohingya refugees lived in Rakhine State until the recent violence. Most face travel restrictions and are denied citizenship in Myanmar.
