The 63rd annual conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) will be held in Dhaka from November 1 to 8.

CPA President and Speaker of the Bangladesh Parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said this at a press conference at the media centre at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in the city on Tuesday (September 19).

Secretary General of the CPA Karimullah Hayat Akbar Khan, chief whip of the Parliament ASM Firoz and whip Iqbalur Rahim also attended the press conference, among others.

According to the Speaker, the conference will be held with participation of over 600 foreign delegates. Representatives from the United Nations and other international agencies will also be invited to attend the conference.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the vice patron of the CPA, will inaugurate the conference on November 5 at South Plaza of the Parliament building.

Although the conference was scheduled to be held in 2016 in Dhaka, it was postponed following the grisly Gulshan café attack in the city on July 1 last year.

On security reasons, some members of the CPA did not show their interest to join the conference after the cafe attack.
